That, I'm afraid, is nothing short of a laughable idea. He is a frustratingly cold and aloof child who prefers to keep himself to himself, shunning the friendly efforts of anyone who might try and worm their way into his life in an attempt to live it out alone. Believe it or not this isn't just because he's something of a brat with an attitude problem; the deaths of his parents had a devastating impact on who he was as a person. The heat of the blaze that destroyed the Phantomhive mansion snatched his rich, full, happy existence from him in a handful of seconds, leaving behind little more than a broken boy with the weight of a name on his shoulders.

"Something once lost will never return."

Lesson number one; all relationships come to an end, one way or another. Time. Betrayal. Death. Why embrace something so impermanent -- something which can hurt so much? Ciel has learned to never to waste his time with anything as perishable as friendship or love, ergo any relationships he does form are strictly for the benefit of either his own wellbeing, his comfort or the Funtom company itself. He doesn't need friends. He doesn't need companionship. A long list of 'connections' and people who owe him favors will do just fine, thank you very much.

Lesson number two; people hurt you. Plucked from the tragedy of losing his parents and home only to be promptly sold into another, darker world, Ciel's childish innocence and naivety was toyed with, stressed, and then shattered into a thousand pieces. Whatever happened to him during the few months he was held captive as a torture pet ruined some part of him beyond repair, his last few shreds of hope melting into nothingness as he turned away from the Light to call upon Darkness. "Would someone who believed in God summon you?" The death of his faith God, and the death of his faith in the human race itself.

Now, with his mansion and name restored to their former glory and his company steaming ahead as one of the most influential in the country, Ciel can't quite grasp why he would ever need to change. The world of business is a cut-throat one and not to be entered into lightly, and staying cool and unaffected has been a major help with managing his own. Moreover, as watchdog to the Queen Ciel has to approach day to day life with a calculating, analytical mind -- emotions would get in the way. Because of this he has learned to view people as nothing more than chess pieces; pawns in his game to be controlled and sacrificed as he sees fit.

◊ HOW IS THIS CHARACTER APPROPRIATE FOR THIS SETTING

I think that Ciel would make a splendid addition to St. Edelweiss because, really, he has a lot of demons that this place could bring out quite nicely. He's from a rather dark canon as it is -- Death Gods, torture, kidnappings, murder etc -- and although he's involved with it all, thanks to Sebastian he very rarely gets the opportunity to experience it from an up close and personal point of view. Taking him out of the equation could prove very interesting indeed, especially considering how much Ciel has come to depend on him as both a butler and a bodyguard. Moreover, he has some deep seated issues with being held in captivity, which will make Edelweiss something of a living nightmare for the poor boy. It'll be fun to see what happens. ♥

◊ WHAT WILL THEIR DIAGNOSIS BE

Depersonalization Disorder.

◊ PREDICTED PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS

Ciel won't be able to cope for very long, that much is a certainty. Honestly, I'd give it a few hours before the realization that Sebastian isn't coming for him sinks, and after that ... well. He's incredibly damaged from previous trauma and won't be able to think or act rationally, and it's more than likely that his anxiety will induce a string of panic attacks. He'll withdraw into himself and slip into his automatic defense mode, effectively becoming a kind of ... boy-shell; the lights will be on, but Ciel definitely won't be home. He won't let himself think about anything, making sure to especially avoid all thoughts of having been thrown into an institute for the mentally unsound. Funnily enough, I doubt that he'd react so extremely had Sebastian been thrown in alongside him, because at least then he'd have that smooth voice of reason to soothe away his troubles. Unfortunately, with that safety net gone, Ciel will plummet.

◊ PREDICTED BEHAVIOUR/PLANS

◊ DANGER LEVEL 1

SAMPLES

◊ THIRD PERSON

◊ FIRST PERSON

[ For a long while there is little more than sweetly strained silence; a familiar non-sound that, more often than not, accompanies the jamming of cogs and gears inside the mind. Then, out of the blue comes a small (yet no less decided) clearing of the throat, and the strain melts away to hide behind a cool facade of confidence. ]

Hurry up, Sebastian.

◊ NOTES
